Geocache Description:

If you manage to locate this cache you will find yourself within quarter of a mile of the UK Headquarters of video game legends, Codemasters!

Codemasters

Codemasters is one of the longest serving video game developers/ publishers in the UK. 2006 saw the company’s 20th anniversary, an illustrious career which started with the Darling brothers programming in their bedroom, and now employs several hundred staff across the world. No bells and whistles here though, the building is not identifiable as Codies HQ until you get to reception – the only outward sign that this is anything but a farm is the security hut (and, perhaps, the group of staff waiting for the bus at home time!)

Some of Codemasters most successful titles include Dizzy (for you real retro-gaming Cachers! Remember those load times?), Sensible Soccer, MicroMachines, Cannon Fodder, ToCA and more recently Race Driver, Colin McRae, Brian Lara and LMA.


Walks/ Things to Do

This Cache can be easily combined with GCN141 Do you come here Ufton? by following this 7.5 mile circular walk (can be shortened, but involves walking alongside a main road for 1.5 miles)

Alternatively there is a a 2.5 mile circular walk from the centre of Southam, which passes the Holy Well as well as the Cache (free parking).

For a shorter dash for the Cache, the nearest parking is in a layby at N52 15.239 W001 25.368, approx 0.5 miles away. Please note walking from here is alongside a busy road with no path, hence Cache becomes unsuitable for kids and dogs
Motorbikes can probably get away with parking at N52 15.145 W001 24.945

Alternative parking could be obtained by visiting the Dallas Burston Polo Grounds, home of Royal Leamington Spa Polo Club, opposite the Cache. Matches are held most weekends in summer, with entry usually charged at only £10 per car! Put on your posh clothes, take a picnic, and have a fun afternoon in the sun, cheering on the incredibly skilled ponies!

I’ve managed to bag some nice Codies goodies for the first few to find, and bearing in mind that Codemasters have just re-branded, these could well become collector’s items! Initially the Cache contains:

Codemasters Online Gaming pens (please leave one for the Cache!)

The theme of this Cache is to remain “video games” in general, so please try to swap items with a gaming theme! Cache is a 3.4L plastic clip-top box.

PS. If any of you old timers fancy some reminiscing, watching the tape load on an Amstrad CPC464, do come round for a “quick” game of Dizzy (cos you know after the third time you die you’ll give up and wonder why you sat there for 10 minutes waiting for it to load, only to find you can’t do it and there were no save points in those days – Ah! The memories!!!)
