Geocache Description:

A view of Shoshone Falls from down low.

This cache is at the base of Shoshone Falls on the Snake River. The view from down here is quite spectacular, but getting here is not easy. That is why it is rated a 5 for terrain.

I would recommend parking at Centenial Park and paddling a canoe or kayak 4 miles upstream to the Falls. You will have to carry your boat around Pillar Falls. There are those who have made it to the cache on foot. They must have a higher tolerance for poison ivy, stinging nettles and thistles than I do.

It is difficult to get a good lock on 4 satelites in the canyon. To get the position, I paddled the canoe to 3 points in the river where I could get a good lock of 4 or more satelites and an epe of less than 20 ft. Then I took a compass bearing to the cache location. When I got home I plotted the 3 compass bearings and they intersected at 1 point, so that is the listed location of the cache.

The original location of this cache was a bit easier to find, which turned out to be a mistake, because somebody stole it. I have replaced the cache a short distance away in a harder spot to protect it. I have to wonder how somebody would just stumble across a cache in such a remote location.
