Geocache Description:

Welcome back to the Juniper Springs region of the Ocala National Forest. You seek an ammo can.

I suppose I could call this "Riffster's Follies", or "Juniper Pond Tour", but considering how I felt when I got to the woods, I think *#&@%!!! is appropriate.

Allow me to explain...

I left home last night at about 11:00pm, with the intention of scoring a night find on Shimski's A P O C A L Y P S E- E N D cache. This cache is just outside my PQ zone, so I had to punch in the coords manually before heading out. Simple, huh? HAH!

I got to the parking area at about 1:00am, and fired up my GPSr, noticing something decidedly odd about the map screen. There was a nice neat row of waypoints denoting the other caches along Mormon Creek, and way the heck away from these was Shimski's cache. Now that I'm home, I can see where I fumble fingered the coords. Grrr!!!

NEFGA has a long standing tradition that when someone meets with a particularly amusing bit of unpleasantness, they hide a cache. Being a well stocked Riffster, I had a couple ammo cans in the back of my truck, ready to go. I set off for what was supposed to be a simple jaunt into the woods, and ended up hoofing 3 miles round trip to find a suitable spot. Your journey should be much shorter.

I've been looking at the ponds in this area on Google Earth, thinking one or more of them might be a spring, but 4:00am is not a good time to investigate geological features. If you want to experience something really kewl, hunt this one at night and shut off all your lights. Listen to the surrounding chorus of frogs, alligators, owls, foxes, deer and other noisy critters.

Good luck!
