The platform is now gone (burned by vandals), but hawk watchers still use the overlook to observe the seasonal migration of eagles, hawks and other raptors . Throughout the year, the overlook is often staffed with volunteer hawk counters.
The raptor migration occurs in the spring and fall, and if you come here during either season, be sure to bring your binoculars. Still, it's a great overlook in all seasons, raptors or not. For some more info about this interesting area check here and here.
There are a number of approaches to this cache. It can easily be reached from the parking areas near The Split Rock Splendor, and We Can't Stop Here, It's Bat Country caches. The coordinates in the cheater show the parking spot at the end of Upper Hibernia Road where I parked to place it, which is probably the shortest route in. Here is a trail map that shows the parking area. I took the orange trail to place the cache and it was a very nice, and fairly short walk. The orange trail can be accessed near the parking lot, just past the gate.
The first stage is a micro, in a waterproof match vial. The second is a full sized cache.
Note: Both stages are near trails and are well hidden. Being that this is a popular area, please be careful while searching and carefully re-hide both stages.
Also note that there is a "herd path" (a.k.a social trail) leading toward the area of the first stage. This was a pre-existing condition.
