In our teens, my buddy northwoodswis and I would canoe camp on this river. His dad would drop us off at the Tomahawk Lodge and a few days later my dad would pick us up at the landing by the ski show. For 3 days and 2 nights we'd fish, tell stories and make up others to tell when we got back to school in the Fall. Straight across the river from this landing is 'Storm Island' (or at least we thought it was an island at the time. On one of our trips a nasty thunder storm came up so we had to make a quick camp, take shelter in the tent and ride out the storm- playing War with a deck of cards.
Today the northern part of the river is not navigable but it's still beautiful and holds a lot of memories for me.
