Geocache Description:

Set in the spooky settings of the Holy Ghost ruins in Basingstoke. It can be done at night but would you risk it.

The Holy Ghost ruins stand on an area of ground over looking Basingstoke railway station. The first chapel was built between 1214-1244. The Tudor chapel was built between 1524 and was dedicated to the Holy Ghost. It was used as school rooms at one point in the past but probably the story i like most is the one of Mrs Blunden.
Mrs Blunden was buried alive in the summer of 1674 after a maid poured her poppy water instead of wine. She fell into a coma and was mistaken for dead and buried quickly in the Holy Ghost graveyard. In the morning children playing, heard scratching coming form her grave. When workmen arrived to dig her up the delay had been too long and she was now indeed dead. Her spirit is said still to haunt the ruins so if you hear something scratching you have been warned. Can you imagine what i would be like to wake up in your coffin knowing you were buried. Give me cremations any day.

The cache is a small micro, its all that i can get away with here. A great deal of stealth will be needed to complete this cache as it is a very muggle infested area. It is my intention to keep a close eye on this cache so if someone in uniform touches you on the shoulder don't jump its not Mrs Blunden.

Parking for the cache on Saturday's only is Vyne Meadow car park, Vyne Road and costs 50p this car park can be used on sunday's and its free. There is also parking in Burgess Road but be careful and read the signs properly or you will be getting a parking ticket. Other local parking places are Cromwell Road, Richmond Road and Sherbourne Road. All of which have limited free parking but again read the signs. Do not park in residents bays.

If you have parked in Vyne Meadow walk out and down the hill past the pub and to the right. Go over the footbridge and the ruins are in front of you. If you have parked in Burgess Road there is an entrance at the parking coordinates. The micro is a small black official geocache canister.
