Geocache Description:

This is a 7-step cache. Park near the first coordinates and stroll the streets of Valdez to see several buildings that were moved from Old Town Valdez after the 1964 earthquake. Bring paper and pencil.

All clues and the cache are outside of the buildings. Please do not disturb people in privately owned buildings.

At the first coordinates, look at the wooden boat. Note the name and the number on it. Add the number on the boat to 6103124 to get your new North coordinates.
A= the third number on the boat (the one in the ten’s place)
B= the number of letters in the boat’s name, plus 4.
Your new West coordinates are W 146°21.3AB

Using your latest North coordinates, subtract 101. This is your new North coordinate.
Look at the old building to the West. (“Truck” Egan used to own this house in Old Town) Count the number of I's + F's on the orange sign with white lettering on the South side of the building = C
Your new West coordinates are 146°21.3CB
Keep walking.

At your next stop, (the old Dieringer building) write down the numbers of the nearest fire hydrant D E F. (the numbers are missing as of 2010, so we've written them on the back side of the hydrant)
Add E plus F, then multiply the sum times 8. Subtract this number from your latest North coordinates. This is your new North coordinate.
Subtract E F F from your latest West coordinate to get your new West coordinate.
Walk on.

At this old building, which used to be the Donohoe and Dimond Law Office, you’ll see a four-word sign in yellow and green announcing the current name of the place.
G= the number of letters in the first word.
H= the total number of letters in the last two words.
J= the number of O’s in the sign
K= the number of P’s in the sign, multiplied by 3.
L= the number of M’s in the sign.
M= the number of T’s in the sign.
Your new coordinates are:
N 61°07.6GH
W 146°2J.KLM

This old building, built in 1916, still has the original company name on the front.
Count the number of windows facing the street on the ground floor (not the one on the door) and add 2 = N
Look at the numbers above the door = P Q R
Your next coordinates are:
N 61°07.NRQ
W 146°21.6PQ

This building was owned by the same company as the last one you looked at. It was later used as the Post Office into the 1960’s,
Count the number of squares carved in the door = S T
Write down the number above the door = U W X
Add S + T = Y
Add T + U + W + X = Z
Your final coordinates are:
N 61°07.YSZ
W 146°21.6ZZ
