Hello… At the coordinates listed above, you will find a small sized cache on the north west side of Abbott Mountain 1060ft, within 1/10 of a mile from the actual summit.
===== Location Details =====
This cache was placed on Sunday Feb 8th 2009 and is within the boundaries of the Newfield Wildlife Management area. The cache is actually located in Shapleigh Maine . This is a public area that is regularly travel by hikers, trekkers, mt. bikers, dog walkers, but the access trails to the peak have largely been banned to motorized transportation due to extensive and continued erosion. Some of the roads around the base of the mountain have vehicle travel restrictions (i.e. Pitts Road), though there are still many open and managed trails that provide multiple access points. Seeing as it was placed w/ several inches of snow on the ground, it should be accessible throughout the year.
In my opinion, the views from the summit are some of the best around in the local area and the family and I have been enjoying them year after year ever since I was first made aware of the view back in 1998. Views of Ossipee Mt, Atlantic Ocean, Mt Agimaticus and the White Mountain range and beyond can all be seen. This cache is located near a scenic vantage point that continues to provides spectacular views, especially in the fall with all the foliage in color. Don’t be surprised to see others enjoying the view.
The terrain a top Abbott Mt has a very interesting rock, sand and gravel combination which can be quite slippery (like ball bearings) so beware of the off camber slopes. As always Please Tread Lightly
===== Cache details =====
The cache is a small watertight plastic container 2 x 3 x 4", suitable for small compact trade items like GeoCoins and Travel Bugs. This simple cache initially contained just a small logbook and a few short pencils and a package of “AA” alkaline batteries. You may need to BYOP in the future
Please make sure the lid fully snaps back on to keep things dry and re- hide well (but naturally) since “muggles” are known to visit this area often.

===== Author Notes =====
I hope you enjoy the hike to this one and also the find the other caches that have been recently placed in this area. This was the first of two new caches I placed today and only my 2nd placement to date. Don’t forget the two other older caches on the south side of the mountain when all combined they should make for a fun afternoon of Geocaching and hiking. I suspect more caches may be placed in the future.
Special thanks to GC’rs THEHIWAYMAN, IAMSURVIVORMAN as well as friends Frank and Brian for helping to break a snowshoe trail (up hill and down) in the deep heavy wet snow to place this cache. It was perfect day for the snowshoe trek . … 88Sseriesiii
