This cache is an ammo can.
This cache is about 0.5 miles from parking. The last 200 feet
requires walking over river rocks. Stay to the south of the creek.
This area has finally been opened back up after the closure due
to the Day Fire. There is evidence that the fire went through this
area, but many of the trees are still doing well.
Please keep in mind that at certain times of the year, the level
of the creek may change, and it may interfere with the path to the
cache area. Please be aware of your surroundings, particularly
immediately after storms and during the rainy season.
Based on some of the signs, it looks like you need an Adventure
Pass to park at the end of the road.
The narrow canyon makes good reception tough... the cache is
about 30 feet above the level of the creek... not down at the creek
level.

September 26 by Davedoo (968 found) Yep, count me in as an LA County Quad seeker too. This one is critical and just ahead of me on the trail were 3 muggles I was really hoping would stay ahead of me and not decide to stop at ground zero. I almost caught up to them at GZ but fortunately they did not stop. I was really hoping to grab this one right away because, like others, I did not want to sweat it out since it is a desperatly needed find (why someone else, including me, doesn't just bring another cache out here for the sake of the LA county challenge is beyond me. But, I was no help either). I searched in several spots for about 30 mins. appreciating that there was still some morning shade at 10:00am. Finally, I decided to pay heed to the tendency I often have to overshoot GZ and searched a little farther in the direction I had come. Suddenly, there it was. Phew!! Thanks f0t0m0m for making it possible for me to check off this quad!
[view this log] | September 5 by NakoTacoPatrol (1113 found) We too, are working on the LA Quad Challenge. This was the day's first find of 18 on our Quad run today. Today was our only Quad run - all the others were found on the way to other destinations. We were prepared for a difficult and lengthy search here based on past logs. To our surprise, we found it very quickly, in the first place that we looked. It helped that one of us was up on the slope while the other was below acting as spotter. Something looked a little odd - further investigation revealed the cache! Left an elongated penny, took nothing and signed log. We returned to the car and read the hint on the printout - it's pretty much a complete spoiler for the cache location! Good geosenses really helped here. Lots of Labor Day weekend campers and fishermen. This is one of the most beautiful areas that the Quad Challenge has brought us to. Thanks so much for bringing us here. (#917)
[view this log] | August 1 by benandjayme (1418 found) We're working on the LA County Quad Challenge (visit link) , so we set out on a mission to find caches in 49 quads in the northern and eastern part of the county. This was our find #7 of 97 over the weekend. This one is a pretty important cache for the Quad Challenge since it's the only reasonably easy cache in the Cobblestone Mountain quad. For that reason, we were getting a bit dismayed when we couldn't find it after 15 minutes or so. The problem in this steep-walled little canyon was that small piles of fallen rocks collect in all sorts of places...and they ALL look like little geopiles! Much to our relief, we eventually expanded our search radius enough and turned over enough rocks to find the cache. Our reading wasn't terribly accurate in the narrow canyon, but our GPSr read N 34 36.616 W 118 45.004 at the cache's location, about 45 feet NE of the listed coords. We're not claiming that those coords are any better than the posted coords, but future seekers might want to check them out if they have any trouble. We left a small dragonfly charm since we saw a lot of dragonflies buzzing around the creek. TFTC!
[view this log] | June 28 by TerryDad2 (1126 found) It turned out well as I spent the entire morning going around the area getting coordinates for additional EarthCaches. This is the area I did a presentation on how to set up EarthCaches and provided the field guide to the area. A couple of years later, only 2 have been set up. Now it is my turn.I tried and I think I even looked at the place the hint describes, but I didn't come up with it. Not a total loss for the area as I found good material for an EarthCache in the canyon and I had a great bike ride down here. As I was parking, a good natured ranger asked if I had an adventure pass. I didn't and figured, as in the past, the fine would be the cost of the pass. Not any more, It is a $780 fine to park in the National Forest without an adventure pass . I could run a red light for less than that . So I had to head back down to Castaic and pick one up and come back. TFTC.
