How Geocaching Works

Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

This is our first attempt at a puzzle and multi-cache, and it will bring you to the Jim Byrnes Memorial Park in East Troy. There is a small playground, picnic shelter, nice walking path, and lots of room to play soccer! The above-mentioned coordinates will lead you to the parking lot only! You will then have to complete a simple math puzzle to continue.

I recently discovered this park when my daughter started soccer practice here. My son and I immediately decided that it would be a perfect place for a geocache, and he picked out the spot for wp1. Since I had a great container that samb615 just made for my bday, I asked her to join me and she selected the final location. We threw in the other wp just to get everyone to walk the entire path and discover the hidden soccer fields. We couldn't think of a cache title, and I jokingly threatened a completely silly name if samb615 couldn't come up with something clever. Well, she didn't, and neither did I, so now you have "Trees are cool". That should be enough of a hint, but we left some more in case our coordinates are off. We used 2 GPSr and several readings, but the 2 GPSr never agreed.

Now, here is the puzzle. Find the following information close to the parking lot: the last 2 digits of the year the park was dedicated, the number of vertical posts supporting the picnic shelter, the number of slides on the playground, and the speed limit through the park.

A = 60 minus the last 2 digits of the year the park was dedicated

B = 69 plus the number of vertical posts supporting the shelter

C = number of slides on the playground

D = 6 minus how many mph the speed limit is through the park

N42 A.8B W088 21.C5D will lead you to wp1, and there will be coordinates inside a small container for wp2, and then wp2 container will give you the final location.

Please be careful searching when soccer muggles are present. Permission to place a cache here was granted by the Town of East Troy clerk's office.

A final tidbit of information...when I first walked here, the last few lines of my favorite Robert Frost poem called The Road Not Taken came to my mind.

...Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
