Geocache Description:

Winter quest for one of the hardest known terrain caches in Manitoba.

Master Instigator is calling it quits and his most challenging cache is about to go the way of the dodo. We are organizing a quest to snowshoe out and get our hands all over the Untouchable cache while there are no bugs and no swimming required.

Meet at the posted coordinates on Saturday, February 24th at 9 am to start the quest. I can track down extra snowshoes if anyone needs them, but you will need warm weatherproof layered clothing, pack, lunch, snacks, lots of water, ski pole/walking stick, gaiters, compass, GPSr, map, fire starter (lighter, water proof matches), candle, dry socks, space blanket, 20 m rope/cord/webbing, headlamp (just in case), ice self rescue spikes, and whatever else you think you might need.

There will be a supper at the Lakeview in Lac du Bonnet after the hike for those interested, so please indicate if you will be able to make it as soon as you can so I can make reservations. For those traveling from beyond Winnipeg, we're looking at staging from Lac du Bonnet since the Nopiming Lodge is booked up that weekend. If anyone wants to meet up there Friday night or share accommodation please message me and I will update the details on this page. Looks like the Lakeview in Lac Du Bonnet will serve as our Friday night staging area.

The event will only be cancelled if the windchill is below -30°, temperature is above 10°C, more than 30 cm of snowfall is expected that day or winds exceed 50 km/h

A detailed map of the proposed routes is available here. Note that the snowmobile trail portion is 3.0 km, the connector trail is 517 m, the Highland Route is 3182 m and the Wetland Route is 3460 m. So if everything goes according to Hoyle we are looking at 13 km return trip. The measured 500 m grid on the map is in UTM Zone 14 NAD 83 which is extended east due to most of Manitoba and the MLI data being in the zone. Your GPS will automatically adjust the coordinates into Zone 15.
