This is our first “Hide”. We hope you enjoy it. This cache will take about 4 hours from the Las Cruces area, and possibly more if you want to do some serious exploring in the area. Many lava tubes at this site. This is on BLM land, so there are no land access issues. Please close any gates. There are two ways to get to this area.
The first is to go from the Kilbourne Hole cache. You will need to head west along the railroad tracks. You will eventually need to be on the south side of the tracks. Find a small dirt road heading south west from N 32 06.485 W 107 01.322. Follow this road to the area that is at a higher elevation. This road can be driven in most vehicles, but one with higher ground clearance might be helpful.
The second way in is from Interstate 10 west of Las Cruces. Go west until you get to exit 127. The Bowlins Runnin Indian truck stop is located here. Cross the overpass to the south side of the Interstate. Then go west along the paved frontage road. When the paved road turns, follow County Road B-5 to the west. This road is well maintained. Stay on B-5 for 9.4 miles until you get to the railroad tracks. Cross the tracks and go east on County Road B-2 for 7.2 miles until you get to N 32 06.485 W 107 01.322. Follow this road to the area that is at a higher elevation. This road can be driven in most vehicles, but one with higher ground clearance might be helpful.
The cache is located on the top of the crater on the southwest side. Cache is in a large metal cookie tin underneath several lava rocks. Original items include coffee mug, sticky foot, playing cards, 2 mechanical pencils, log book and several other items.
