Julia Child would have turned 93 years old this month. She
passed away last year on August 13, 2004, two days shy of her 92rd
birthday. Julia was a warm, genuine, and down to earth woman who
demystified French cooking to folks in the United States in the
1960's. She taught folks not to be afraid of food and cooking, and
paved the way to the abundance of fresh produce, cooking shows, and
innovative restaurants available to us now.
In her younger years, Julia Child enjoyed the outdoors and
played practical jokes on her friends. After she graduated from
college, she was looking for some adventure and went to work for
the OSS, the predecessor to the CIA. She was not afraid of
technology and loved using the internet. If Julia knew about
geocaching, I think she would of enjoyed geocaching and probably
would be hiding lots of great camouflaged caches.
I was lucky enough to meet Julia Child twice. The first time was
at a booksigning in downtown Los Gatos, only a few miles from this
cache location. I took the morning off of work and arrived about an
hour before the booksigning was to begin. Already the line had
snaked around the block. About 15 minutes before the booksigning
was to end, I was still in line when the store's personnel came out
and said that the booksigning was about to end and that those of us
standing towards the end of the line would most likely not get our
books signed. Many folks left, but I figured I would at least stay
there and get a glimpse of Julia. My persistence paid off. Julia
continued to sign her books of every person standing in line even
after her allotted time was over. I even said a few words to her,
but I can't remember what they were now.
The cache is hidden close to parking, but requires a little on
and off trail downhill hike to reach it. Please cover up the cache
with natural materials when you rehide it. The posted hours for
this park is 7am to sunset.
The cache is a 6" x 6" x 3" Lock and Lock plastic container
covered with camo tape, and contains a geocache note, logbook, pen,
and some cooking and food related trading items, including the Bon
Appetit Travel Bug. It'll be great if you can keep with the theme.
