Cayuga Crew's Mount Cayuga Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cayuga Crew: With the ASP permit about to expire in the near future it was decided today would be a wonderful day to plod through the muddy trails in the rain to retrieve this cache and celebrate a successful two year run. I grabbed Szuchie early this morning, outfitted him with some Yuenglings and great pumpkin rain gear and up the mount we went. It was a pleasure to find the cache right were we left it and full of quality swag. Thanks to all that visited our favorite mount, Mt. Cayuga.

Allegany State Park Permit #ALL158

While preparing for a hike along the North Country Trail in Allegany state Park I was studying topographical maps for a route we planned to take. As I scanned the maps I noticed for the first time that several of the peaks within the park have been given names. We spotted Mt. Tuscarora, the Three Sisters, Mt Seneca, Blacksnake Mountain along with several others before noticing the one, the best of them all. Of course I am referring to none other than MOUNT CAYUGA. Damn they named a mount after us! It wasn’t long before we started making plans to place a cache on our namesake mount and while electronically scouting potential locations up on old Mount Cayuga we came upon these coords and knew we had to place a cache exactly at this spot on our Mount and so it came to be. Joined by Szuchie, Don of Team Greenbeans and the Hiking Cockroach while on a hike on the North Country Trail we detoured off the trail to investigate the potential hide locations at the predetermined coords and were happy to find an ideal spot right where we needed it to be. So there it is, a loaded ammo can hidden on top of Mount Cayuga and coords so cool you won’t have to write them down to remember them in a location any average cacher should spot from a hundred feet away. Enjoy our view, we enjoyed arranging the earth flora and fauna to maximize your viewing pleasure. We do suggest long pants as we encountered a few thorny areas on our way up to the top of our Mount. I have revisted the cache recently and want to let you in on a little secret.

DO NOT APROACH THIS CACHE DIRECTLY FROM THE NORTH

Approaching from the north will put you into the gnarliest field of thorns and pretty much ruin your day. Here's a photo of a few fellows too stubborn to go around the long way.

Now if we were you this is the thornfree approach we would take,/center>

We would park right here at N 42 00.145 W 078 49.097 where the North Country Trail crosses Coon Run Road

Then we would cross this bridge on the North Country Trail headng to N 42 00.048 W 078 48.867 where we would start bushwhacking toward...

SZUCHIE'S ROCK

Which is located at N 42 00.063 W 078 48.793
After gazing at this double pie stacked rock for as long as you like prepare yourself for beginning of your ascent of Mt.Cayuga.

We found this ridge at N 42 00.167 W 078 48.523 and it lead us toward the top.
It won't be long after completing the climb that you'll find this..

The Cayuga Crew's Mount Cayuga Ammo Can Cache

We have created waypoints for all the sites mentioned as well as a few more we took coords at on our way up the hill.

All that remains now is completing the song parody that always seem to accompany our caches. Here’s the first few verses, maybe you can help by suggesting more...

On top of Cayuga All covered in leaves...
Was a camoed ammo can to find if you please…
We bought it from Huckle And painted it black...
Then hauled it up the mountain in our gunny sack...
We tried to forwarn you...
So bear us no scorn...
If on the way up here You're pricked by a thorn...

Oh and a special note to Szuchie, Hiking Cockroach and Don of team GreenBeans. I moved it from where you last saw it so feel free to go back and find it if you dare..
