This cache is hidden on the grounds at Historic Fort Hays, and permission has been granted by the curator. Historic Fort Hays is located on Hwy 183 Alternate, which is easy to get to from I-70, Hwy 183 and Hwy 40. This should be a quick find. The grounds at the fort are ADA accessible, but not where the cache is located. The cache is trucker friendly, but you will want to park your truck at the pull-off directly across the highway from the entrance to the fort.
You will be searching for a large container with a lock. The combination to open the lock is the house number for the hosting place. Original contents include: log book with pencils and sharpener, 9 trackables (including the ones that Fishman1976 placed), fishing lures, koozie, deck of cards, insulated travel mug, sheet of stickers, sheet of tattoos, bottle opener keychain, word seek puzzle book, sudoku puzzle book. This historic site is available year round. The visitor’s center is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 9am – 5pm. There is a small fee for admission which includes entry into all of the buildings and a guided tour through the officer’s houses. If you do not visit during the operating hours, you may still walk the grounds to look at the buildings. Please be respectful of the property. If you are in a big rig or large RV, there is a pull-off directly across the highway. There is also a nice park across the highway and several other caches within walking distance. Be careful and watch your children! Please take a travel bug only if you have one to leave. Even if you don’t have one, feel free to discover any that are in this hotel. Please use stealth, respect the area, CITO if needed, and leave it as you found it for the next person to enjoy. Good luck!
