Geocache Description:

The cache is on private property with permission of the owners. It's at the 4300 foot level at the base of Timber Mountain in north eastern CA. Besides the usual swag there is a highly collectable and rare Rock&Crystal Certificate for the First to Find, suitable for framing.

Tionesta in the early 1900s was a thriving lumber town, boasting a mill and the usual array of stores, cabins and well, you know. The lumber played out and the lumbermen moved on and the town of Tionesta went "belly up". Today all that remains at the original town site are piles of old tin and broken glass and the remnants of a once precious water pumphouse. But this town wouldn't die, it simply moved a mile or so east to the base of Timber Mountain. The same rugged pioneer spirit that was Tionesta 100 years ago is still alive today. The area is rich in Modoc Indian prehistory, pioneer history, wild life and is the backdoor to the Lava Beds, Medicine Lake, and a host of other fascinating places.
The folks at Tionesta are welcoming and down right friendly. The cache can be found at the physical and social center of town, not to mention the museum of local history. Stop in and say "howdy" to the proprietors Denise and Jim and their family, who have kindly agreed to watch over the cache. So as not to disturb the historic treasures, look to the wagon carrying the crematoria at the above coordinates. Below the double doors is a single door that hides the treasure and at one time would have been the place of the heat source. It came from the Japanese-American WWII Camp north of here. Please don't touch anything but that which has been specified. Imagine going "Belly Up" and ending up in there!
