Geocache Description:

This cache is retired as of 08/01/2013. See below for more details.

Near the summit of Sitgreaves Mountain. There is no trail here. Reaching the summit is straightforward - just keep going up. The reason for terrain difficulty is in finding exactly how to get there (and back)!

All geocaches should have a finite lifetime, hopefully determined by the owner and not by accident. After 9 years and 23 visits by some of our most dedicated cache hunters, it is time to retire this one. For those who may have kept offline records and may visit the cache before September 1, 2013 you may claim your find by sending me the information you find at the cache coordinates, ideally a photo. Remainder of description below is kept for historical reference.

Not for the inexperienced off-trail hiker. Satellite reception will be spotty if you get off the ridges into moderately dense aspen/pine forest. For the most direct route, Spring Valley Rd. (AKA FR 141, well maintained gravel) can be reached from the Parks exit #171 off I-40. Turn south on the good service road at N35 22.240 W112 01.540, drive to the end. Ascend any way you are comfortable, ridgetop will be much easier to navigate than the dry drainage. I visited here as a backpacking trip, bushwhacked through the drainage on the way up in 4 hours with short breaks, descended on the ridge in 90 minutes, camped a bit southeast of the summit where there is a nice view of Humphreys. When I placed the cache, an unofficial register in a glass jar at the summit benchmark showed average of only 4-5 visitors per year the last 2 seasons. Cache is an ammo box containing the usual trinkets & treasures - mostly trade items from my first 50-100 cache finds. Also left a travel bug the first finder will want to retrieve.
