In the East Village neighborhood of New York City, on the Lower
East side of Manhattan, there are still over 70 community gardens.
They were created by local residents, on empty and unused city
land, over the last 30 years. Today, as part of the Green Thumb
program, most of these gardens are protected as NYC parks. But in
order to preserve them, access is limited. This cache is part of
the East Village tour of community gardens.
This is a micro cache that has been camouflaged to match it's
unique surroundings. Our team of neighborhood experts has reviewed
all our East Village Garden caches and declared this one to be the
most fun for kids.
At the cache site there are three different public areas; starting
at the western corner there is a small children's community garden,
then there is a small, but very child friendly park (constructed by
the city to stop local folks from using the land for other purposes
about 15 years ago), followed by a community garden used mostly for
cultivating flowers and vegetables.
This cache is part of the
East Village Garden Tour cache
