Geocache Description:

Easter Jabberwocky Trail - an Egg Hunt around Tyldesley

This cache is located in a cutting along a disused railway line which can be accessed by walking down some steepish steps from the bridge on the main road. A little bit of scrambling may be necessary to reach the cache which only contains a logbook, a small pencil and clue data for the Jabberwocky series. Oh yes, it can also be muddy and a little slippy in some places - that's the Tulgey Wood for you!

The cache is part of a series of caches in the Easter Jabberwocky Trail series, all of which are located in the Tyldesley area of Greater Manchester in North West England. One of the ideas behind this series is to put Tyldesley on the geocaching map!

The series was inspired by my daughter Catherine's school homework to learn the Jabberwocky poem by heart. So it's true that they teach a load of nonsense in schools today!

Each of the caches in the series can be logged individually as a 'standalone' cache, and so if the clues are not solved only the final cache will be missed.

Most of the caches in the series (there are less than 10) need to be found to work out the position of the final cache where a small seasonal reward awaits the FTF. A little research about the poem and the author and some processing will be necessary in order to make sense of the data found in each cache location.

If you want to try to get all the caches in one go, bring your research with you or perhaps a phone with internet access. I estimate that the whole trail should take three to four hours on foot and perhaps two hours by bicycle. As individual caches, none of them are further than ten minutes from a road or parking places.

Most of the caches are small brightly coloured Jabberwocky Eggs containing data of use for finding the final cache, but you'll need to work out how many caches there are in order to find the Jabberwocky at the end of the series. Remember that everything relates to the Jabberwocky in some way.

A few additional bad egg caches (which are just film cannisters) have also been thrown in just to spice things up a bit, but these still count as cache finds

Check out my blog and look for Jabberwocky in the Post Categories if you need any more help. The blog has links to pictures of each location on Flickr. Search for GeekTeacher and Easter Jabberwocky.
