Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the southern tip of the Tongue Mountain Range north of Bolton on Lake George, NY.

This is a regular 30 cal ammo can cache that is hidden not far from the end of Northwest Bay trail at Montcalm Point. This cache will take a good measure of effort to reach but the journey and scenic beauty is worth it. There is a significant hike along the Bay Trail of about 5.3 mi one-way from Clay Meadow trail head on Rt 9N at N43 37.763 W73 36.502. I gave it a 5 terrain rating due to the distance and remoteness. The hike takes you through stands of mature hardwood, pine and hemlock, past rock outcrops and small streams cutting down the flanks of the Tongue Range along the shoreline of Lake George. This would be a great ski or snowshoe trek in the winter.

We placed this cache via kayak starting from the NW Bay boat launch at N43 37.522 W73 36.446. This is roughly a 4 mi one-way trip by water. The kayak trip hugging the Tongue shoreline was wonderful. The water is crystal clear and I found many great spots to pull the kayak ashore and take refreshing swims! Two loons swam alongside for a while. The cache would also be easily accessible by power boat from the lake, dropping the terrain rating quite a bit.
