Geocache Description:

This "Glass Mine" is really a gypsum or selenite mine. It stands out as a bright white in the sunlight. Rumor has it that the pioneers used to mine this material and use it for window panes before it was feasible to bring or make real glass out west.

The road to this cache is dirt but well maintained and easily traveled by standard car. If you have 4-wheel drive you can probably drive to the top of the hill and get very close to the cache, otherwise it is a fairly short hike up the hill.

The gypsum in this area is particularly clear and layered compared to other local deposits. They make nice specimens for anyone interested in rockhounding.

As of May 26th the Veltkamp Brats have adopted this cache and cleaned out the trash in it. Help us keep this cache great.
