Geocache Description:

Another Canby Geocoin Challenge Cache! The 2 Terrain Rating is due to a 0.2 mile walk over a trail on uneven ground and small windfalls are possible.

THIS CACHE IS A REQUIRED CACHE TO EARN THE 2009 CANBY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GEOCOIN. You are looking for a camo'd Ammo Can. It is set where "Sojourn in the Park" used to be. [Thank you CabCo for Archiving your cache so that "Black Cottonwood" could continue it's run in the Park!! That is greatly appreciated.) Once you have 'Found "Black Cottonwood" wander down the Trail to "A Knight's Cache" [GC1FQ1R]. EVERYTHING IN THIS PARAGRAPH AFTER THIS POINT REFERS TO FINDING BLACK COTTONWOOD WHERE IT USED TO BE HIDDEN. IT IS A NICE WALK IN THE WOODS WITH VIEWS OF THE RIVER. Once you have gotten it, follow the Trail (Not the primitive road) South. If you use just about any of the trails heading in that direction, you will do just fine. I have come and gone to the Cache a number of times using different trails and always ended up getting to and from the Cache or Parking Area. Just head South on the trails to get to the Cache and North on the trails to get to the Parking Lot OR you can just backtrack to the 2 Caches that are given above! Stay on the trails and not the road which goes onto Private Property. What is Black Cottonwood? It is one of the largest deciduous trees in the area and responsible for all that 'fluff' that is in the air in late spring and in drifts on the ground. It is one of the softest of the hardwoods. If you try to split Cottonwood when it is freshly cut, expect to get a bath because the sap/water will spray out all over. When the wood has dried it is about a third the weight of freshly cut wood! It does not make a good firewood at all. The leaves are quite large and sort of heart-shaped. Most of the taller trees with leaves (Not needles) that you see along the trails are cottonwood because they like 'wet feet'. That's a clue that it could be muddy after Oregon Sunshine, also, known as RAIN!! The Native Americans used cottonwood for making all sorts of remedies. Look on the backside of a 'Twinned Black Cottonwood" and be careful of Muggles. It is best if you Retrieve the Cache and move away from the Hide Location while you have the Cache.

############################################# The last of the 2009 Canby Chamber of Commerce Geocoins has been claimed however the Caches will remain in plce for other Cachers to 'Find'. ##############################################
