This cache is inspired by Shakespeare's comedy The Merry
Wives Of Windsor. There is a very funny scene in the play
where Falstaff, hidden in a laundry basket, is hauled off and
dumped into the Thames River. As I was hiding this cache, I was
hoping that my cache would not meet the same fate as Falstaff. A
synopsis of the play as well as the full text can be found here. There have been no noteworthy film or TV
productions of the play. However, I did see a fantastic outdoor
production of this play in Mountain View, CA about twenty years
ago.
"By gar, I will cut all his two
stones; by gar, he shall not have a stone to throw at his
dog:"
(Act I, Scene IV)
This is the first Shakespeare play I ever directed. I chose it
because the comedy is so broad - almost slapstick - and the
characters and situations are so well-written making this, I think,
one of Shakespeare's most accessible plays. I had a ball working on
this play with my wife as my stage manager. There are many great
quotes from this play, and the quote above is not one of them. But,
ever since we worked on this play, my wife and I constantly deliver
these lines to each other with an appropriately bad French
accent.
Like all my other Shakespeare caches, you do not have to read
the play to find the cache.
The Area
Not much to say about the area. It's not particularly nice. As
you start out on this cache, you'll go through an area that has
been used as a bit of a dump by the locals. Soon you'll be past it.
There is a little bushwhacking to get to the cache. As I was
exploring the area, I found a huge tree making due with a
situation. I found it kind of cool, so I dropped a cache here. Have
fun.
Please Note
- The cache is a small lock & lock container
- There is a steep drop to the river near the cache. Be
careful.
