OVERLOOK1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

kc8bdr: After many attempts (Dating back to last November) I was able to contact someone on the park office, to attempt to get a permit to keep the cache in place.

I was informed that the park director has decided to not allow geocaches in Pontiac Lake state park. Was also told to check back next year, (I will do just that)

So with this in mind I am archiving this one.

Thanks for all who searched for this, and the help in attempting to find it once it was known it was missing.

Thanks

Jim

Geocache Description:

HIGH POINT IN THE AREA,IT'S ON AN OLD TRAIL, GET CLOSE BY MOUNTAIN BIKE, OR HIKE IN. GREAT VIEW.

This cache is in the Pontiac Lake State Park. You will need a state park day pass ($6.00) or yearly sticker ($24.00) you can get them at the Park office, 7800 Gale Road Waterford MI 48327. After hours, there is a self-registration station at the park office.

Parking coordinates are

42° 40.523N
083° 28.995W

This is on Gale Rd. just west of Tackles Dr. and is about a .71 miles form the cache according to my GPSR.

If you are camping in the park campground you are in luck as the cache is .3 miles (estimate) from the camp registration office.

You will be looking for an ammo can, this was move about 100 feet from the old coordinates in early November 2004. When at the cache take some time and enjoy the view from up there.

As you look to the north you can see the weather radar antenna at the National Weather Service forecast office in White Lake, Mi. However the hourly report is from the Airport 2 miles southeast.

There are some great photos of the view in the photo gallery.

Stuff inside for trade are. Two 4 packs of AA batteries, One cyalume light stick Red (12 hour) A bag of marbles, When was the last time you had a set of marbles in your hands. Along with a few other things.

There are three modes of transportation to get to the cache. Hike up, horse back, and mountain bike. The cache is just off a horse trail. If you do use a mountain bike you will need to leave the bike just off the bike trail and hike the last little bit, as bikes are not permitted on the house trails.

I will try to get out here to do Maintenance on the cache, about once a month. However do let me know if there is something needed.

Thanks for taking time to hunt this cache.
