Coordenadas
A típica solução das caches enigmas é um par de coordenadas. É expectável que essas coordenadas estejam no formato da descrição da cache. Mas também pode acontecer não estar.
Coordenadas da cache, como se verificar, estão no seguinte formato:
N/S DD° MM.MMM’ E/W DDD° MM.MMM’
Onde “N/S” é “Norte” ou “Sul”, “E/W” é “Este” ou “Oeste”, “DD°” é graus e “MM.MMM’” minutos.
Normalmente, as coordenadas são compostas por 14 dígitos (para longitudes menores que 100º) ou por 15 dígitos (para longitudes maiores que 100º). Na Ilha da Madeira, o Oeste (W) é W 016º, o que muitas vezes ignorasse o zero, ficando um conjunto de coordenadas de 14 dígitos.
Formatos alternativos
Às vezes, os donos (owners) das caches enigma usam formatos alternativos para as coordenadas deixando que as adivinhemos.
Ou seja, em vez de estar no formato DD MM.MMM, podes encontrar a solução no tipo DD.DDDDD, que é gruas e fração de graus. Ou no formato DD MM SS, "graus minutos segundos". Ou ainda no formato 'Universal Transverse Mercator (como podes observar na descrição da cache).
Proximidade de geocaches (aka “2 milhas”)
A localização final de novas geocaches do tipo segundo as linhas de orientação (guidelines), tem de estar no máximo até 2 milhas de distância das coordenadas publicadas. Conhecido também como os 3.2 km de distância.
No raio desta cache (N 32° W 017°), um minuto de longitude ou latitude é igual a uma milha.
Supondo que a cache foi colocada nas coordenadas N 32º 45.000 W 017º 06.000, e sem nada saber acerca das coordenadas finais do enigma, as 2 milhas limitariam a localização final da cache entre Nº 32 43.00 e N 32º 47.000 e ainda entre W 017º 04.000 e W 017 08.000.
Visualizar a solução
Para visualizar a solução podemos usar o Google Maps para desenhar uma área ou determinar a distância entre dois pointos. Uma alternativa mais precisa é usar a calculadora online. Para delimitar a área onde se encontra as coordenadas finais, podes usar o site www.gpsvisualizer.com.
Exemplo prático, abrir este link e encontrar a caixa de texto que diz: "Or paste your data here". Depois colar o seguinte nessa mesma caixa:

- A está dentro das 2 milhas permitidas.
- B está fora.
- C também está fora.

Coordinates
The typical solution to a puzzle cache is a set of coordinates. Sometimes the expected format is given in the description, but good puzzles often leave that up to you to figure out.
Cache coordinates, as you know, are typically listed in the following format:
N/S DD° MM.MMM’ E/W DDD° MM.MMM’
Where “N/S” is “north” or “south”, “E/W” is “east” or “west”, “DD°” is degrees and “MM.MMM’” minutes (rounded to the thousandths place).
Puzzle writers often often leave out things like punctuation and spacing as a means of obfuscating the answer. Typically, that means running all 14 digits (for longitudes of less than 100°) or 15 digits (for longitudes of more than 100°) of the solution
Alternate Formats
Sometimes, puzzle cachers use alternate formats for their solutions, just to keep you guessing.
Instead of DD MM.MMM format, you might see a solution in DD.DDDDD format, which is in degree and fractions of a degree. Or DD MM SS format, for “degrees minutes seconds”. You may even see the Universal Transverse Mercator or "UTM" coordinates used in the solution (cache coordinates are listed in UTM format on the cache page, just below the latitude/longitude).
Puzzle Cache Proximity (aka “The 2-Mile Limit”)
The cache placement guidelines for newer caches require the final location of a puzzle cache to be less than 2 miles from its posted coordinates. This is known as the 3.2 kms limit. This limit naturally limits the possible solutions to your puzzle.
In the vicinity of this cache (N 32 ° W 017°), one minute of longitude or latitude is approximately equal to one mile. Suppose a puzzle cache has posted coordinates of N 32 45.000 W 017 06.000. Without knowing anything else about the solution, the two-mile limit means that the final has to be somewhere between N 32º 47.000 and N 32º 43.000, and between W 017 04.000 and W 017 08.000.
Visualize your solutions
You can use Google maps to draw a marker on the map for a solution or to determine the distance between two points. A more accurate alternative is to use an online calculator to calculate the distance between the posted coordinates and your solution. If you have many possible solutions, you can use www.gpsvisualizer.com. This site allows you to show your own data points on a map. For each of these points you can specify a circle so you can see if a solution is within the given limits.

- A is within the 2 mile limit.
- B is outside of the limit.
- C is outside too.
