Dish Walk Traditional Cache
homermayor: The great old downed tree where this cache lived is no more. A big cleanup after a couple of fires turned it to pulp. Will
try to create a replacement nearby.

The cache is located in the Stanford Dish area near the Alpine Road gate.
Constructed by SRI International in the early 60s for the U.S. Dept. of Defense
and located on Stanford University land, the 150 ft diameter radio reflector
has become known locally as "The Dish." At completion it was the third largest antenna of its kind in the world. One of its uses is to monitor and measure L-band signals from GPS satellites so you should get good signals here! Recently it has been used to listen to Spirit and Opportunity.
The area is a popular with hikers and joggers.
Park off of Alpine Road at Piers Lane. It is about a 1/2 mile walk to the cache (well below the Dish) from the parking area with a climb near the end. Cross over two bridges and through the gate. Please obey all regulations which are posted at the entrance; the area is patrolled regularly by security vehicles. The cache is a short distance off the paved road and you need not (indeed, should not), go cross country. The area is open roughly from sunrise to sunset. The gates are locked 20 minutes prior to closing time.
The cache is a small plastic peanut butter container concealed by the use of native material and contains a few trading items, log and pencil.
