Great Sportsman's Multi Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

k_statealan: The first stage is likely gone. When I was out there this weekend, it appears the same fate befell the final. Likely it swam away when the lake was up last summer. The point, which was about 10' above the water when I hid it, has been significantly eroded since then and was only 3 feet over the water when I pulled up in the boat. The spot where the can was was barely even there anymore. The tree it was next to was starting to hang on for life. Too bad to see this one go, but I won't be able to maintain it very easy from KC, especially now that gas sky high.

Geocache Description:

This multi-cache was placed just before (and in celebration of) my 500th find. It is designed to test the will of the cacher who dares to take up the challenge. It has the potential to be one of the more difficult caches in the state despite the fact that every stage site is visible from the other two.

This is a 3-stage cache with a large ammocan at the end. The theme is "outdoorsman." It is stocked with a variety of items useful to hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers and cachers. One of the original items includes reflective tacks useful for making your own night cache.

This can be done with a boat or by foot. Boat would probably be easier (note: easier is not the same as easy). You will come across virtually every kind of terrain Kansas has to offer: crops, grasslands, rocks, marshes, brushy meadows, woodlands, beaches, ravines, and hills. It is almost entirely bushwacking/heavy walking. Wildlife is abundant. Saw several deer, geese, owls, buzzards, turkey, as well as numerous kinds of small critters, bugs, fish and spiders. Didn't see any snakes, but I guarantee you could.

If you go by foot: Expect hikes of .5-1.5 miles one way on each stage. In order to complete plan on spending 4-5 hours. That's how long it took me to place it. The 3rd stage is the longest, so plan accordingly if you aren't physically fit for a long hike after the other two stages.

If you go by boat: the first stage is about as far as you can get on the lake from a boat ramp. Milford State Park, Curtis Creek, and School Creek are probably about the same distance. Probably too far for someone to use a paddle boat to get to. Don't think that just because you boated in it means you get away from bushwacking. You may still have to do .25 miles or more. Also, at certain lake levels you may have to park a ways away or wade in.

Stage 1 and 2: You are looking for 2 CD's glued together with the next coordinates written on them. Being thin, the CD's could be slid anywhere. Use your caching sense and it should be pretty easy to spot.

***Be cautious*** Portions may be in public hunting areas.
