We made it! We had a great time (Dad and kids, 8, 4, and 3). It was
worth the drive from Alpena. I don't know what was enjoyed more:
the cache, the horses, the fish, the frogs, or the good
conversation. Thanks a lot!!

But the real treasure here is spending time with James and Sheryl.
You won't find more wonderful people. Thank you again for opening
your home and hearts to all us wayward Geocachers. You are truly
special people!!

There are caches and there are caches but I would suggest that
anyone who can DO THIS ONE. It was awesome not only were James and
Sheryl kind enough to give us a personal tour they had a nice write
up available outlining the entire maple syrup process...If you can
I would suggest you try to do the cache when either James or Sheryl
are around so they can tell you about the process, they were great
hosts.

This cache is near, if not at, the top of our list of all time best
caches we have done.

This
event sponsored by the NL Chapter of MiGO
This is a chance to see a small backyard maple syrup making
operation.
You will be able to log a cache that not many people will get a
chance to log,
and maybe get a free bottle of homemade maple syrup.

And now, the Plan:
11AM-2PM
Tours of a sugaring operation, time
to do the Sugarbush Cache & socialize
2PM-3PM
Dinner in our basement: Consisting of
some great link sausage (from our local butcher),
pancakes, butter, maple syrup, fruit
salad, milk, juice, coffee & tea
Bring nothing but yourselves,
everything will be provided. A donation jar
will
be available to
help defray the
costs.
Any monies collected in excess of
costs will be donated to MIGO.
Sugaring is highly weather dependant, even
though this date has been picked to provide the
best
chance of being in full swing,
no guaranties, but the event will take place
regardless,
even if it becomes a meet and greet.
We ask that everyone please RSVP so we can be
prepared
We ask a few people bring along griddles and spatulas so we can
crank out enough food for the masses in a timely manner. Please add
in your posts if you plan to bring a griddle, three or four should
be plenty.
Warning: There is a
chance you may get hooked into flipping a few jacks
yourself.
Now for some rules, this will be both an outdoor and indoor
event. The trails at
this time of year are highly unpredictable; they vary hour to hour
as well as day to day.
Good footwear is advised, it could be snowy, slushy, muddy, or a
combination. Outdoor footwear is not allowed in the house, bring
shoes, slippers or prepare to go in stocking
feet. One last
thing: No smoking in the house or near the horse
barn.
ALLERGY ALERT: We do
have two indoor cats, as well as birds, and a dog.
Because outdoor footwear isn’t allowed
inside, there will be a prize, or prizes for the best, funniest,
most unusual, or best decorated slippers or
socks!!!
So get creative.
Lawn chairs
would also be a good idea.
Bring your appetite, lawn chair,
slippers/socks, and prepare to spend some time with fellow
cachers.
