The cache is located on a nice belay ledge on the Checkerboard
Wall, Dona Ana Mountains, Las Cruces, NM.
The coordinates listed at the top of the page will get you to the
right area, but the actual cache will require technical rock
climbing gear. Once you arrive at the coordinates you should see a
giant 300-500 foot rock face in front of you that looks something
like this
The cache is hidden near the center of the Checkerboard Wall on a
rock climbing route called Cross Trainer. The actual location is
circled in the above photo and once again in the photo below
The climb is probably about a 5.7 based on the Yosemite Decimal
System, but there is some loose rock and the good climbing doesn't
really get going until the two pitches above the cache location. We
did the route in 4 pitches, but I believe there are at least 7 sets
of anchors.
Due to the heavy nature of ammo cans I chose to hide a waterproof
match container for this one. By following the below pictures once
you get to the ledge you shouldn't have any problems finding the
cache... now to get the ledge!
Be safe and Happy
Climbing!
