MicroShip1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

Time for some Spring clean-up before the mosquitoes fly and the cruise ships arrive.

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of a timely response to a prior Reviewer Note. If the owner would like to have it reinstated, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Located near the western end of the new Ship Creek trail in downtown Anchorage, this micro is within a half-mile of major hotels, the Alaska Railroad terminal and the summer Saturday Market location. Remember to bring a pen - it's a small micro (bison) - accessible without leaving the paved trail.

Visitors and local residents alike trek to this location in pursuit of Ship Creek's prized early summer King Salmon run and late summer Silver Salmon run. MicroShip1 overlooks a popular fishing hole on the creek from a pedestrian footbridge along a paved trail. Best free parking is one full block south and west, in front of the Alaska Railroad's office building (with the clock tower). Walk on the sidewalk from the clock tower to the trail paralleling the creek. Don't park anywhere else - it's all either pay parking or assigned space parking, and you'll be liable for ticketing and/or towing.

Trainspotters will enjoy the safe but close-up view of the Alaska Railroad's busy yard operations. Anchorage was established as a supply port for the railroad during its construction back in 1915, and the railroad yard envelops most of this area. Locomotives, passenger, freight, and maintenance of way cars are all in view from the Ship Creek Trail, including a rare rotary snowplow.

The cache is no longer under the bridge, to assist with revegetation efforts here along Ship Creek. DO NOT LEAVE THE PAVED TRAIL TO SEARCH!. The hint has been upgraded for your assistance. Please replace the cache as found to preclude its accidental discovery, and help keep this stream habitat clean by practicing CITO! (Clue edited 9-6-10 to better assist visitors)
