I recently discovered the trail to this cache while doing another cache on the peninsula. The trail is referenced (via hyperlink) in that cache description and finding the reference should cut down on the difficulty level of this cache.
The terrain rating comes from the route I took on a mountain bike. I should note that this is one of the toughest mountain bike trails I have ridden so far. And quite honestly, a good chunk of it I wasn't riding, I was pushing or walking. I do not consider myself an expert rider, but if you plan on riding this entire trail, you had better be an expert! My route was 14 miles and 2200 vertical feet of elevation gain. I depleted a fair amount of my water supply on a cool, foggy, winter day.
A couple of notes on this cache...
Do not try bushwhacking! You will not have to leave a trail until you get to within 100 feet of the cache. Trust me, if you think you are close enough to bushwhack, you will regret it!
There may be a closer way to approach this cache, but I am not aware of it. I saw what I thought were trails on USGS quads and marked the waypoints. When I got to those waypoints there was no hint of a trail at any of those locations.
Mark waypoints at intersections you come across. They could help immensely. Otherwise, if you make a wrong turn you could add a significant amount of mileage to your trip. Another reason to find the link referenced above. In fact, I would make it a must.

Finally, there is not much swag in the cache. It is practically empty. I'm much more curious to see who is up for the challenge. There are not too many caches with this many stars so close to home. I hope to see some locals give it a shot.
