Geocache Description:

I won't bother sugar-coating this one. This is a tough cache. The hike is about a mile and a half to two miles - one way. Driving to the parking area you will see a towering cliff to the east. Yes, you are going up there, and you are going the hard way. You may want waders and a low profile back pack to carry your dry hiking boots for the climb. TAKE DRINKING WATER and snacks. If you do both caches in the area, expect to be on the trail about five hours. Leave plenty of daylight for your adventure. There are moose, bears, wolves, coyotes and other animals out here and this is their home. BRING A FLASHLIGHT AND FIRESTARTER JUST IN CASE.

In an effort to provide a pleasurable geocaching experience for cachers of all levels, we decided to place this difficult cache for those who like to hike, camp and fish.

Getting there: To get to the parking area a 4WD vehicle with some clearance will be necessary. If you don't have a 4WD it will add several miles to your hike.

The container: Downgraded to a less conspicuous ammo can to minimize muggle activity.

The location: Quoted from the DNR website - "Rocking Chair Lakes is a natural area in a rugged inaccessible part of Marquette County. The lakes being managed trout lakes, offer a true hike in only wilderness fishing experience." There is a camping spot at the top for those who want to bring a tent to spend the night. Bring a collapsible rod and reel for some nice trout.

The ratings for this cache are straight from the geocache rating system. There is a very steep climb involved - about 150' vertical over 320' lateral. Don't forget - what goes up, must come down!

Specifics: Plan on two and a half to three hours for the hike (five if you do both caches). You will need to walk (or wade) to the end of the 'road' and cross the creek on a beaver dam to the west. There is another beaver dam that is crossable just to the east of the end of the road. (There will be a camp on your left as you walk to the cache.) After crossing the creek, head east to the clearing. Pick up the game trail going east until you reach the bottom of the slope. From here you are on your own. The trail is not well marked and you may find yourself in a bushwhack situation. Be careful and good luck! WARNING: Children, persons with heart conditions or other medical conditions aggravated by strenuous activity should not attempt this quest. All participants take part of their own free will.
