For radio amateurs in the world today the biggest challenge is not
so much to transfer for long distances but rather to make contact
with locations where there is no or only little radio amateur
activity. One of these locations is Lichtenstein, the tiny European
state. To these rarely accessible places radio amateurs organize
trips regularly, and these trips are called DX expeditions.
Several foreign radio amateurs travel to Lichtenstein every year,
who, while pursuing their pastime, also make it possible for others
to make contact with the wanted zone and log the contacts.
My friends and I have been to Lichtenstein several times, too. We
have traveled the mini state far and wide, so beside our radio
experience we have also had some touristy impressions. We have also
met several like-minded foreign radio-amateurs and made friends
with many of them.
More and more of the radio amateurs are also geocachers. This is no
surprise as both are technical hobbies, and among many other
similarities, success depends on gadgets.
With this cache we would like to draw attention to Hungarian radio
amateurs who make excursions into the HB0 zone (HB0 is the prefix
of Lichtenstein’s radio amateur code), and make the radio amateur
hobby more popular.
The box is hidden near Masescha (a village on the road from Vaduz
to Malbun - Gaflei), in a wonderful setting. From the suggested
parking lot the first point can be reached in 15 minutes. Here,
having taken in the scenery, you are to read from a memorial two
dates that will be needed for determining the coordinates of the
second point, the box.
The coordinates of the cache are:
N47° 08,XX3' - where XX must be the sum of the digits of the first
date,
E09° 32,4YY' - where YY must be the sum of the digits of the second
date.
Do not be surprised to see strange poles, wires, antennas around
the houses or in the alpine fields: many houses in the area are
rented by radio amateurs regularly.
Have a nice trip and a successful find – and we hope that many
radio amateurs will visit the cache can leave in the box a QSL card
filled in for the "Ham-Cache in HB0"
