Elves in the Vortex Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

The Leprechauns: Today I hiked many a mile to pick up all the containers for the "Four Corners" geocaches. It's been a great three years for these. No missing caches, no damage to the area, nothing but fun and good hiking.

I hope that with the park now opened up for new caches, that someone else will hide some for me to find. If nobody does, I scouted out some cool spots today. Raccoon Creek is such a beautiful park and there should be more geocaches here.

Thank you to all who visited, and wrote all the nice logs. That is why I hide caches.

Geocache Description:

This cache is one of our "Four Corners" series of geocaches, designed to introduce you to the trail system in each corner of Raccoon Creek State Park. It was set up for the Earth Day Cleanup Event Cache held on April 26th, 2003, with the cooperation of the park management.

Prepare to enter "The Vortex," a challenging area near the Outdoor Center and Group Camps, where several streams and trails converge. Go to the Friends of Raccoon Creek website to see a trail map. Study it carefully, and you'll see that a number of trails will lead you to the cache area, with hikes of varying lengths. When choosing your point of departure, be sure to observe all posted signs regarding vehicle access and parking. For example, you cannot park at a group campsite unless you are staying there, and you cannot park at the Outdoor Center. One legal parking area is at N40° 30.507' W080° 26.271'; from there you can hike down the Camp Trail towards the cache. The cache is a painted ammo box that is in plain sight, if you look at it from the right direction.

New logging rule effective 12/10/05: Logs mentioning any commercial offsite game not approved by Groundspeak, Inc., are subject to deletion by the cache owner.
