The art of commerce and industry
The earthquake and fire of 1906 destroyed much of downtown San Francisco, including the two year old Bank of Italy. The bank’s founder quickly set up shop at his home in San Mateo, and began a business of lending money for reconstruction. He made loans to customers, big and small, and his bank florished.
The posted coordinates bring you to the Louis Macouillard mural that illustrates both the history of that bank and the industries of the San Francisco Peninsula. The tiled mural was set by Alphonso Purdinas. The southeastern panel incorporates the title of this geocache.
To locate the nearby offset keybox microcache, find the ‘single’ year on that SE mural panel and subtract the last 2 digits of that year from the posted decimal minutes of latitude. Additional clues may be found in the photo captions.
Please bring your own pen, as the pens inside the building are tethered on chains.
