Geocache Description:

Friday night, August 12, 7PM - Answer the call! It's time to roll up our sleeves and get serious about our game - we need a state 'umbrella' organization to help protect our ability to play on public lands!

All across the country (and across the world) cachers have had to form groups to interface with public land managers in a collaborative effort to establish guidelines for the geocaching game. The goal is to keep our access to these lands as unrestricted as possible, while meeting the public policy goals of land managers. Here's your chance to be in on the ground floor of organizing just such a group to work on land use issues, plan terrific events, educate the public and new players, and promote having fun!

Among the items to appear on the agenda:
• Formal Resolution to create a statewide organization
• Type of organization structure - loose vs. tightly
organized - Steering committee vs. officers
• Agreement on whether we're dues based or "pass the hat" based (as needs arise)
• Establishment of a small group named to pull together a formal purpose, bylaws, code of ethics, etc. This group will be able to liberally borrow from other organizations
• Establishment of a small group to seek out and identify critical decision-making land managers who will be targets for informational meetings.
• A name for the organization (remember to think about what the initials might spell...!).
Ideas submitted thus far:
Midnight Sun Cachers, Far North Cachers, Farthest North Cachers, Great Land Cachers, Last Frontier Cachers, Geocache Alaska... what's your input?

Indicate your interest in participating with a reply, please. We're looking for name submissions too - submit those via posting a note to the logs and it will get 'edited' into the listing above. If you can't make it, make you ideas known by posting a note to the cache so your voice can be heard!

The event will be held at Dimond Blvd Baptist Church, 3616 W Dimond Blvd (south side of Dimond all the way out towards Jewel Lake Road; no-cost meeting space!) beginning at 7pm on Firday August 12th. Hot coffee will be brewed; some drinks provided - bring a snack to share! The Geocache Alaska banner will be on the building's front, facing Dimond.
