Madoc’s Quay Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

A nano size cache, situated on the Penrhyn Bay / Rhos-on-Sea front, near to the point where legend has it that Prince Madoc set sail in 1170 to discover America, 322 years before Columbus.

Legend has it that in 1170 AD Madog ab Owain Gwynedd (Prince Madog) and his brother, Riryd (Regyd), left the quay on the Afon (River) Ganol at Aber-Kerrik-Gwynan, on the North Wales Coast (now Rhos-on-Sea) in two ships, the Gorn Gwynant and the Pedr Sant. Tradition tells us that he returned some years later to tell of his discovery of a new land. He then collected a fleet of 10 ships loaded with colonists, and was never seen again. Although the legend cannot be proved, a commemorative stone in Alabama does mark the place where he is claimed to have settled. There is a plaque in the garden (not open to the public, and not visible from the road) which states "Prince Madoc sailed from here Aber-Kerric-Gwynan 1170 AD and landed at Mobile, Alabama with his ships Gorn Gwynant and Pedr Sant". Click here for more information on the legend of prince Madoc, compiled by the Madoc International Research Association.

Please bring pencil and tweezers to sign the log.

Many thanks to the Harbour Masters Office for permission to place the cache here.
