Over the past year of caching I have collected a number of things needed for hiding and for finding caches. At one point I came to the realization that someone seeing the items without knowing anything about caching would probably think that I am somewhere between planning a kidnapping or starting a drug selling operation.
Some of the more interesting ones are:
- Rope - Used as a safety line when retrieving some caches
- Duct tape - Used to camo cache containers
- Pocket knife - Used for cutting rope and duct tape
- Camera - To take pictures of really cool caches
- Little ziploc baggies - Used to store logsheets in caches
- Small vials - Used as cache containers
- Tweezers - Used to extract logs from small caches
I can imagine the situation coming up where I'm parked in an odd spot in the middle of the night getting ready for a night cache. "Oh, Hello Officer" "Sure you can look in my trunk, I have nothing to hide." "Oh that stuff, yea, I use it for geocaching."
<Followed by a long tenuous conversation on what they are and what the caching use for each is>
This cache is near the spot with my only run in with a cop (so far) and helps me to get rid of a couple of odd pieces out of my trunk.
Feel free to include in your log what caching related item you have that could create an interesting conversation (with a cop or even a non-cacher).
