Geocache Description:

Located at the summit of Picketpost Mountain near Superior, Arizona. Elevation: 4305 feet (at the cache on the summit, not at the highest point of the mountain though)

Elevation of highest point of the mountain: 4375 feet

I placed this cache as well as another at the base of the mountain in order to get more cachers to this spectacular area. This is great yet challenging hike up the side of the mountain. The views at the top are well worth the hike! You got the Superstition Mountains on the west end followed by Weavers Needle over to Iron Mountain and the Four Peaks. And without a doubt, the best view of the Catalinas north of Tucson from this far away.

At the mountain base the trail splits into two paths. Ultimately you will be hiking up a canyon-like fissure and there is a trail on either side. The left hand route is said to contain a bit more climbing than the right hand route. I took the right hand route and it wasn't too bad. Either way the rate of ascent steepens as the trail takes you around the many cliff lines encountered on your way to the summit. The route provides a small amount of exposure and a small amount of actual 'climbing' may be involved. The trail is marked by stones stacked upon one another and by arrows painted on rocks. For the most part the route is readily apparent.

Once you have reached the summit, you will find a large area to explore. To find this cache, once at the top just follow the GPS to the cache area.

The container is a cookie tin spray-painted black. The original contents include various toys as well as the Cruisin the World TB.

As with any hiking cache, watch out for poisonous snakes and other desert critters. I spotted a tarantula on the way up the mountain, so be careful! Also be sure to bring plenty of water as this is a 3-4 hour hike.

Good Luck and Enjoy.
