Sherpa's Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

ScouterHerb & MrsB: The hide spot for the cache is now in the middle of the new river channel, so it has obviously been washed away. If any one sees a large ammo can floating in the Glenbow Reservoir it is ours.

Geocache Description:

A large Ammo Can located just off the Berm protecting Redwood Meadows. You can park near the Mail Boxes at the north entrance, but please do not block the boxes or the road. Be aware of Muggles at the cache site as the Berm and any other trails in the Townsite are well used. Please re-hide well!

Caution Note! Some have had trouble with footing in slippery conditions such as snow. Do not take a direct route across the rocks, protecting the berm, to the cache, but rather go down the well used trail to the west (left) of the cache to the flat area below the rocks, and then around to the cache.

This cache is placed in honour of our four legged caching buddy

Sherpa

Sherpa passed away at age 17 this past June and we wanted to place a cache in his memory, near one of the places he loved to go for a walk, and the berm around Redwood Meadows and some of the trails along the Elbow River, were his favorites.

Of course these walks were often slow as he just had to sniff everything. He had become both Blind and Deaf for about a year before he passed away and the walks got curtailed, as he kept bumping into things.

The cache of course is set up to trade dog related items (no food or treats though as this is Bear & Coyote country).

However if you are bringing your Dog to visit Sherpa's Cache there are some things you should know about Redwood Meadows:

Redwood Meadows has a Leash By-Law which applies inside the boundaries of the Townsite, which includes the Berm. This means Dogs must keep their owners on leash, and they must make their owners clean up after them.

As the townsite is on land leased from the Tsuu T'ina First Nation, the area outside the Berm is tribal land, including the River bottom, and although they have never stopped public access there, keep in mind that it is their right to do so.

For the safety of your dog be aware that the land across the River and to the north of the townsite is their traditional hunting land, and they sometimes set traps in those areas.

The cache originally contained some Doggy trade items and FTF Card Game as FTF Prize.
