Geocache Description:

This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. The theme of this cache is “Education at Spa Park.” We’ve included a few Spa Park themed brain teasers for those who like to solve puzzles. Spa Park offers many programs for adults and children who are interested in learning about its natural and historic attributes.

This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. There are 44 geocaches hidden within 11 state parks and state historic sites in the Saratoga/Capital District region, and geocachers finding them all will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. If you are interested in taking up the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites, or download the passport at www.nysparks.com.

This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache. Use this stamp to stamp your passport. This stamp is NOT a trade item.

Parking available at the Administration Building located off of the Avenue of the Pines. When Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) has concerts the parking lots can become extremely congested. To check on concert dates please see their calendar (visit link) Crossword puzzles, word searches, and scavenger hunts do not need to be replaced with new items.

The year 1935 was perhaps one of the most important in the history of Saratoga Spa State Park. This eventful year marked the opening of the world class Spa complex which included, among others, four buildings which can be seen from this geocache. To the north stands the Gideon Putnam hotel which opened in 1935 to accommodate the thousands of visitors who journeyed to Saratoga to take the mineral waters. To the southeast is the Victoria Pool which was built to offer recreation to the patrons. If you look southwest you can see the back of what is now the Administration building and the front of the Hall of Springs. The Administration building was formerly a research center where scientists did experiments with Spa Park’s mineral waters. The Hall of Springs is a grandiose structure which was built to serve the mineral waters to patrons who wanted to drink them. If you have time, walk around and check out the impressive architecture.
