How Geocaching Works
Near Goose Lake parking area. Short hike. Alt. 11,600 ft. 8 mi. of 4wd road to parking area.
This cache was placed to memorialize Charles (Charlie) N. Pirtle who passed away on August 4th, 2008. Charlie was a retired Border Patrolman who owned a cabin in Valley of the Pines since 1980. One of Charlie's favorite fishing holes was Goose Lake.He would make the trek up to this location long before the road was passable each spring. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman, horseman, and hunter/fisherman who enjoyed the northern mountains of New Mexico. He was known for toting a salt block, for the deer and elk, up the mountain facing his cabin which he did this past June(08). This was no easy task for the average 74 year old man, but this man was not average. For more infromation I have included his obituary in the cache and would appreciate it if you would leave it and this information for the next cacher. Trade items include a North Dakota Key Ring, Electronic Auto Pilot, and Car Compass.
