We have placed this cache on a little known or used Public
footpath near the Villages of Kingstone and Madley in rural
Herefordshire.
It offers a rare opportunity to get a really good view of the
Large satellite dishes that belong to BT, the views of these
monsterous structures are spectacular from this vantage point.
"Beam me up Scotty !" seemed a good theme as you will see
when you visit this cache's location, and as we found out that
Scotty died earlier this year it seems only fitting to mention this
fine actor and remember his role in the Star Trek films.
Please note that although this cache has started life with a
StarTrek theme, this does not mean that swap items can only be
StarTrek related, please feel free to swap
anything !

Access to the cache is best from the Eastern edge of the village
of Kingstone and this is the recommended access direction. The
footpath is signposted from the main road 52deg 01.426 North,
2deg 50.173 West and leads down a rough lane which is suitable
for vehicular access if you are careful or you can park somewhere
in the village. Towards the bottom of the lane there is a pull-in
on the right hand side just big enough for a car or two. Please do
not drive any further down the lane as we do not want to upset the
people who live in the houses at the bottom.
The area is criss-crossed with a few footpaths, but you need to
look for the red and white "BT PROPERTY KEEP OUT" sign then
take the Public Footpath immediately to its right (it is not very
well signposted and looks as if you are walking into someones
garden [you arent...]). You will see that
there is a double fence, a proper security fence and a small
regular one, please keep to the footpath side and do not get to
close to the security fence otherwise security may get interested
in you !
Alternative access is from the other end of the footpath at
52deg 02.100 North, 2deg 50.781 West, parking is possible on
the grass if the weather is fine, but please do not park in the BT
entrance as this is not public access.
The cache is a small 1.6 litre lunchbox, in a camoflaged bag,
that had as its original contents :
A model of the Starship Enterprise, 2 x Star Trek themed computer
games CDs, A Star Trek communicator badge keyring, A star Trek pin
badge, A scotty dog pin badge from the SPCA, A Star Trek bookmark,
Oh yes... and "Mad Dawg Scotty"
- A scotty dog travel bug. You can check his journey by using
tracking reference TBN54Q if you like. There is also a small
digital camera there for people to take pictures of their visit for
the log, this is not a swap item and as we do not know if it will
work as well as we need it may be replaced at somepoint in the
future with a regular camera if it proves to be too
problematic.
Hope you enjoy the cache !
