The first stage of this multicache first takes you to the small
Rosenheimer cemetery, which is located right on the Yellowstone
Trail. The Yellowstone Trail went right through Slinger, on what is
now highway 175.
The Rosenheimer cemetery is dominated by a large obelisk in the
cemetery, and is surrounded by the stones of later generations of
people of in the Rosenheimer family. They likely had their own
cemetery since they were Jewish and most of the other nearby burial
places were part of Christian churches.
Lehman Rosenheimer and his family arrived from Addison, and
immediately started a general store, tavern, and several other
businesses. He is described as, "undoubtedly Schleisingerville's
most prominent and influential businessman." His business included
merchandising cattle, grain, hides, butter, eggs and other farm
products. In 1860 and 1867, he enlarged his store. He bought real
estate and expanded his business interests to farm implements, a
brewery, a lumber yard, banking and a grain elevator. He was called
the "Merchant Prince of Washington County" when he died. His house
remains at 206 W. Washington St. The graves of Rosenheimer and his
wife and many of his children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren are in a small cemetery along Washington Street,
which is the old Yellowstone Trail.
