Old Man on the Mountain Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

AndrewRJ: This was my first cache and still my favorite. After 9 years it has had a long life and it is time to retire it. I removed the old man today. and hope to redeploy it elsewhere in the future. In the mean time he is taking a needed rest in my backyard.

Geocache Description:

Approximately a 2 mile round trip hike from the south entrance of the TMT. Park at N47 26.579 W121 58.610. My first hide so comments are appreciated. You will need to bring a pen or pencil.

Tiger Mountain is a working forest. Each year approximately 1 to 2 percent of the timber land is harvested and then allowed to re-grow. As you walk along the miles of trails, you can see evidence of the mountain’s logging past.

During one of my most recent hikes in the TMT I came across this area, which is one of the most recent to be harvested. I don’t care to see the land used this way, but given a choice between having it cleared in one fell swoop like in so many nearby areas and being able to use the land for so many recreational activities I am glad to still be able to enter the wilds of these woods.

While I was here I spoke with the Old Man of the Mountain, and we spoke about nature and the past, present, and future, and he asked me to extend an invitation to all of you to come and visit and talk to the Old Man. I gave him something to hold on to in order to guarantee some visitors. He is waiting for you.
