This Old Chimney is located just off a trail in Powder Mills
Park. I'm not sure of the history behind the chimney but it is
interesting to see this standing by itself with nature all around
it.
Powder Mills Park, as the name implies, was a place where
blasting powder was once made by the Rand & Wadhams Powder
Company in the late 1800's and early 1900's. In 1910 the company
closed down and the property sat vacant until 1929 when the Monroe
County Parks Commission purchased 290 acres. The mill and homestead
located on the property were torn down.
Today the park is the home of a fish hatchery used to stock the
local rivers with trout. There are numerous trails that run
throughout the park and several picnic areas with pavilions. During
the winter there are numerous hills used for sledding and a
beginner's ski slope.
Suggested parking is at the nearby fish hatchery. Be sure to
take a look at the Mushroom House which can be seen from the road
on the way to the trail.
The cache is a magnetic keyholder. There is only room enough for
the log book so bring your own pen or pencil. The cache is NOT on
the chimney. Please only look at it. Touching it in any way will
not help you find the cache.
Congratulations to Peppermill 6-Pack on the FTF and to
Cache-N-Release for being First To Prize (FTP).
