Granny Sue and Sweet William: Had a visitor recently - all was well - next person (last week) couldn’t find it - searched this morning and it’s nowhere to be found. A shame as it had been there for 20 years - so we’re archiving it.

PLEASE NOTE: This cache begins in a little historical cemetery. This cemetery is open from 7:00 am until 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Closed on weekends and holidays. Enter through the gate by the historical marker.
This small cemetery has come to be known as the “Yellow Fever Cemetery”. Few people had died in Palmetto until the summer yellow fever epidemic of 1888. In fact when the first person in Palmetto to die of yellow fever was buried, they had to bushwhack their way to the cemetery – after that first visit, many more followed. The townspeople would watch for buzzards flying over homes on the outskirts of the community – when seen, they would go to check on the people and often remove and bury the bodies. When the town opened a new cemetery in 1910, many of the people were moved from the ‘old’ cemetery to the new one, however, the yellow fever victims could not be moved due to fear of spreading yellow fever, so they remain in the ‘old cemetery’. Mary S. Howze (my great grandmother)was the first death from yellow fever and her grave site is your first destination. The container giving the final coordinates has been removed. The final cache is 1500 ft at a bearing of 2. Check the distance to see whether you want to walk or ride to the final cache. Parking is allowed on/near the dirt roads.
