Geocache Description:

The Ridgeway National Trail is an 85 mile long path, following a prehistoric chalk ridge route. It runs from Ivinghoe Beacon near Aylesbury to Overton Hill near Avebury. All sections can be walked and others, listed as Bridleways, can be cycled and ridden too. This series of caches was placed as a power trail to draw responsible cachers to this amazing and ancient right of way.

This cache has been placed as a replacement for RIDGEWAY RUN - Over Wendover. However, it is in a new location, and can be logged as a new find by anyone who found the original cache.

View from the monument, looking towards Aylesbury.

The cache is hidden just off The Ridgeway, approximately halfway between the Boer War Monument at Coombe Hill, and the start of this section of path, just to the West of Wendover. There is a fence containing some barbed wire that you may (or may not) need to go near to get to the cache, so please be careful, you do not need to cross this fence to get to the cache. At some times of year sheep graze near to the path, so be careful with dogs please. It can be muddy in places.

When setting the cache, I got inconsistant readings on my GPS, particularly for the Westings, the co-ords I have used are based on an average over several visits, I would welcome any comments regarding the accuracy of these co-ordinates.

If coming by car, there are two suggested parking spaces, both about 0.6 m/0.9 km from the cache, see below for details. If using public transport, take a train or #50 bus to Wendover, then go to Parking point 2 (see below) for the start of the path you need, take care crossing the road near the corner (you'll see what I mean when you get there).

Please replace the cache as you found it & no piles of sticks please.

There are five National lottery scratchcards in the cache, the first five to find may take one each.

Whilst in the area, I strongly recommend you visit the viewpoint at Coombe Hill Monument (see below for co-ords), you can see for miles from here, and if you need an extra incentive, there are two great caches near there too!
