There we were, tooling down the road heading for some more caches, when Bones323 hit the brakes and pulled a quick U-turn. He'd spotted some ladies on the side of the road filling plastic jugs from a pipe jutting out of the ground. Something about the scene reminded him of a recent episode of Texas Country Reporter.
Sure enough, this turned out to be one of the semi-famous Artesian Springs of Zavalla, originally exposed in the 1960s during construction of SH-63 and nearby Lake Sam Rayburn. Since then, the springs have gushed forth a steady flow of cool, clear water. Despite the nearby signs warning that the water does not meet state standards (simply because it's not tested), local residents insist that the spring water is much better than the city water.
You'll be looking for a camouflaged film canister. Bring your own pen to sign the log. And be sure to fill up on the cool, delicious water!
