Deze cache is de 3de van de serie Wouter’s Wondere Wereld,
waarbij ik de cachers stukjes van Zuidoost Brabant wil laten zien
waar ik zelf ga wandelen of fietsen en waar nog geen andere cache
ligt.
Wouter’s Wondere Wereld 3 is een fietscache die in mijn
woonplaats Lierop begint en een ronde maakt door het groene hart
tussen Helmond en Eindhoven en de natuur ten zuiden daarvan. Het
landschap onderweg is zeer gevarieerd: je komt door bos en
boerenland in allerlei variaties en de tocht loopt ook over de
heide. De route ontsnapt steeds net of net niet aan de steden en
uit de kluiten gewassen dorpen die het groene hart bedreigen.
De tocht is ongeveer 40 km lang en is daarom
niet aan te bevelen om te wandelen, behalve als je
wilt trainen voor de Kennedymars. Je kunt gerust met de fiets(en)
op de auto komen, want op het beginpunt is het mogelijk om te
parkeren. Op drukke dagen is het snel vol, zoek dan een rustige
straat in het dorp waar plek is langs de weg en fiets naar het
beginpunt.
Blijf tijdens het deel van de route dat door natuurgebieden loopt
op de paden.
De naam Elementen Fietscache is er niet alleen omdat je de
elementen trotseert als het weer even niet meezit, het heeft ook te
maken met de opdrachten die bij deze cache horen. Het “periodiek
systeem” is een vereiste voor het succesvol oplossen van deze
opdrachten. De opdrachten waarvoor het periodiek systeem nodig is
kun je thuis doen.
De cache is klein voor een ‘regular' en er kunnen dus geen grote
goedies in.
De inhoud van de cache bij het leggen is:

laten liggen)

• Nieuwe Traveltag
• Enkele goedies om te ruilen
De opdrachten
Deel 1: de route
De route leidt langs de knooppunten van het routenetwerk. Hiervoor
heb je geen GPS nodig. Om deze knooppunten te verkrijgen moet je de
volgende puzzel oplossen:
Ga van het beginpunt naar Uranium – Neptunium – Polonium
– Bismuth – Lood – Thulium – Rhenium – Iridium – Kobalt – Osmium –
Tin – Radium – Curium en terug richting Protactinium.

Bij het beginpunt (N 51º 25.173 - E 005º 40.916) moet je even
zoeken naar het goede fietsroutebordje. Het staat niet op het
startpunt maar wel in de buurt.
Deel 2: de waypoints
Onderweg zijn er 9 waypoints te (be)zoeken om de cache te kunnen
vinden. Hiervoor moet je thuis puzzelen met behulp van het
periodiek systeem.

Ook hier geldt dat je mij kunt mailen als je niet zeker bent van de
uitkomst.
Deel 3: de cache
Bij 3 van de 9 waypoints vind je fotokokertjes met daarin het
cijfer wat hoort bij de letter van het waypoint. De waypoints met
fotokokertjes zijn: WP A, WP C en WP J. Door matige ontvangst
gecombineerd met een hogere snelheid kunnen WP A en vooral WP C een
afwijking hebben. Daarom geef ik hier voor die twee een extra hint:
WP A – boom, WP C – gemetselde constructie.
Bij de andere 6 waypoints zal je een vraag moeten beantwoorden
om het cijfer te verkrijgen. Voor de vragen heb je het periodiek
systeem niet nodig.
De vragen zijn:
Vraag 1(B)
Deze slagboom is afgesloten met een slotje. Daarop staan 4 cijfers
xx/yy. B = (2e cijfer + 3e cijfer) - 1e cijfer. RESERVEVRAAG voor
wanneer ze het slotje hebben weggehaald! B = het aantal witte
schakels (zonder de 'ogen'!) - het aantal witte strepen op de
slagboom (inclusief de kleine).
Vraag 2(D)
Lees de tekst op het bord goed door. Wat is het aantal
Koningslinden? Halveer het aantal, de uitkomst hiervan is D.
Vraag 3(F)
Hoeveel schoepen heeft een rad? Je kunt schatten want je hebt
alleen het tiental nodig. F = tiental + 1.
Vraag 4(G)
Aan beide kanten van het fietspad staan waterleidingpaaltjes. Op
het paaltje aan de zuidkant staat A en B met ieder 3 cijfers, op
het paaltje aan de noordkant alleen A met 3 cijfers.
Neem van het zuiderpaaltje het eerste cijfer na A en doe bij het
noorderpaaltje hetzelfde. G = eerste cijfer zuiderpaaltje – eerste
cijfer noorderpaaltje.
Vraag 5(H)
Behalve een bankje kun je hier nog ergens op zitten. Hoeveel
betonnen zitplaatsen zijn er? Tel hier 3 bij op om H te
verkrijgen.
Vraag 6(K)
Dit punt komt je misschien bekend voor. Dit is een fietscache, de
opdracht gaat nu dus wel over de fietsroutenummers. Neem het
hoogste nummer en trek daar het laagste nummer van af. K = de
uitkomst + 1.

This cache is the third of the series “Wouter’s Wondere Wereld”,
in which I want to show the cachers parts of Southeast Brabant
where I go walking or cycling and where no other cache is hidden
yet.
Wouter’s Wondere Wereld 3 is a cyclingcache that starts in my
home village Lierop and makes a tour through the ‘green heart’
between Helmond and Eindhoven, and the nature south of it. The
landscape on the way is very varied: you pass through forest and
farmland in all kinds of variations and the route also crosses the
heath. The route often barely escapes or just passes through the
cities and towns that threaten the ‘green heart’.
The route is about 40 km long and because of that it is not
recommended to walk this cache. You can come with your bike(s) on
the car, because it is possible to park at the starting point. On
busy days when it becomes full, search for a quiet road in the
village with enough place to park beside the road and go by bike to
the starting point.
When the route passes through nature, please stay on the paths.
The name “Elementen Fietscache” doesn’t only mean you face the
elements when the weather turns bad, it als has to do with the
assignments of this cache. The “periodic system” is a requirement
to successfully solve some of the assignments. Those assignments
that require the periodic system can be solved at home.
The cache is small for a ‘regular' and no large goodies fit in
it.
The assignments
Part 1: the route
The route leads you along the “connection points” of the
cyclingroute network. You don’t need a GPS to follow the route. To
get the “connection points” you have to solve the following
puzzle:
Go from the starting point to Uranium – Neptunium –
Polonium – Bismuth – Lead – Thulium – Rhenium – Iridium – Cobalt –
Osmium – Tin – Radium – Curium and back towards
Protactinium.

Part 3: the cache
At 3 out of the 9 waypoints you will find photocanisters containing
a note with the number that belongs to the letter of the waypoint.
The waypoints with photocanisters are: WP A, WP C and WP J. Because
of moderate or poor reception combined with a high speed, WP A and
especially WP C can be inaccurate. Because of that I give an extra
hint for these two: WP A – tree, WP C – masonry construction.
At the other 6 waypoints you have to answer a question to obtain
the number. For these questions you do not need
the periodic system.
The questions are:
Question 1(B)
This beam has been closed with a lock. On it are 4 digits xx/yy. B
= (second digit + third digit) - first digit. BACKUP QUESTION for
when they have removed the lock! B = the amount of white chain
links (without the 'eyes'!) - the amount of white stripes on the
beam (including the small one).
Question 2(D)
Read the text on the sign well (in dutch!). What is the number of
“Koningslinden”? Take half this number to get D.
Question 3(F)
Because I find it impossible to translate a word in the dutch
question I will have to ask something simpler. Until I have done
this, I will give you the number for free if you email me. I won’t
put it up here, that’s too easy because most of the dutch people
know english too and can read it!
Question 4(G)
On both sides of the bicycle lane are watercompany poles. On the
pole at the southside of the path is A and B with a 3 digit number
each, on the pole at the northside is only A with a 3 digit
number.
Take the first digit after A from the southside pole and do the
same with the northside pole. G = first digit of southside pole –
first digit of northside pole.
Question 5(H)
Except for a bench you can sit om something else here. How many
concrete ‘seats’ are there? Add 3 to this amount to get H.
Question 6(K)
This point may be familiar. This is a cycling cache, so the
assignment will be about the cycling numbers now. Take the highest
number and subtract the lowest number (on another pole) from this.
K = the answer + 1.
